About Freeway Florida

Reaching the hard-to-reach.

Freeway Ministries began at a coffee shop in 2011. Freeway Florida carries the same mission to Central Florida: to reach the hard-to-reach with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, one broken life at a time.

John Stroup, founder and Executive Director of Freeway Ministries

What is Freeway?

“When Jesus gets ahold of someone with a criminal background and they accept Christ, they become men and women with a vision! They are on fire, and some of the boldest Christians you will ever come in contact with. It then becomes our job to encourage, teach, warn, assist, and correct this new believer according to God’s Word. These individuals become ‘God magnets,’ reaching people that no one else can reach.”

John Stroup, Executive Director of Freeway Ministries

Mission of Freeway Florida

Disciples who make disciples.

Our mission is to reach the hard-to-reach with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, one broken life at a time.

By meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of those hurting in our local communities, we equip others to minister and multiply that impact. We accomplish this through weekly meals, biblical teaching, intentional discipleship, and Christ-centered outreach.

As an extension of the local church, we are committed to sharing the Gospel, helping people find freedom from sin and addiction, and empowering individuals to live transformed, productive lives centered on Jesus Christ. Our greatest desire is to see people come to know Christ, be discipled, and then become disciples who make disciples.

  • EXIT 01

    Outreach

Focusing on the physical and spiritual wellbeing of the community, we meet a person’s physical needs so they will be more receptive to focusing on their spiritual needs.

  • EXIT 02

    Evangelism

Intentionally spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through preaching the Word of God, we present a Bible-based service weekly at all of our locations.

  • EXIT 03

    Discipleship

Equipping believers with the Word of God through accountable relationships to replicate faithful followers of Christ, we provide one-on-one discipleship.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19–20 NKJV

Why Orlando?

Bringing the Gospel to a city in crisis.

Each time we visited Orlando, we met a huge need for discipleship-based recovery. People are hurting, broken, lost, and see no way out of the cycle. Discipleship is recovery.

The mission in Orlando

How we accomplish it.

Freeway exists to live out the Gospel and fulfill the Great Commission. We believe that through Biblical truths, people can and will be set free from any and every addiction, and we help the local church reach what we feel is an unreached people group.

  • Discipleship housing

We provide housing that offers structure, stability, and accountability in a safe, Christ-centered environment. Freeway is more than a program. It is a family. Many of our graduates continue to attend our services, celebrate holidays with us, and faithfully serve alongside us.

  • Proven programming

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, up to 83% of people released from prison are arrested again. Over 90% of graduates from Freeway discipleship houses do not return to prison after completing the program.

  • Community partnership

Alongside local churches, we have built strong partnerships with law enforcement, courts, probation and parole, recovery centers, and the Department of Corrections. We are not grant-funded: through the generous support of churches, individuals, and businesses, we continue the calling God has placed on this ministry.

  • Lasting relationships

As men learn to live according to the truth of God’s Word and build lasting, Christ-centered relationships, lives are transformed, families are restored, and communities are changed.
